In the same way Dr.U.V.Narasimha Murthy translated the poetry of Jayanta Mahapatra and Pratibha Ray's Yajnaseni was also brought in recently. Everybody knew about Nikhileswar's translations of Seetakant Mahapatra.

And now here, another master piece "Gourahari Das Kathalu" came into Telugu, rendered by well known translator Murthy Kvvs. Gourahari Das is a foremost story teller from the soil of Orissa. Most acclaimed writer and he received many coveted laurels including Sahitya Academy Award. Well, coming to the translator, Murthy Kvvs is synonymous with Mario Puzo's magnum opus "The God Father". Though he translated many other works, his name popular with such one.

Now Murthy has come up with 13 stories of Gourahari Das. Translation stlye is expressive and reader friendly. In nutshell, simple and lucid. Titles of stories like Gajubomma, tanDri, Kasinda chettu, Illu, Ekumeku, Ahalya pelli, Bangarapu mukka, Saripoyindi, Urmila,Neramu siksha, Maya vruksham, Chinna pantulu. All the stories filled with warmth and tender human aspect. Every Story begins and ends with a precision of special strategy. The reader gets teary eyed and electrified with many unspoken thoughts.

Each story encompasses the intricate feelings of human relations at the level of individual and society. And the writer's anguish to set right things is evident all along. Stories like Illu, Bangarapu mukka, Saripoyindi, Urmila, Chinna pantulu are really outstanding and on par with international standards in every way. Illu Story will haunt the reader all along the life. Human emotions especially the identity crisis in the senior citizens portrayed in a subtle way. Exactly that quality made this story an unforgettable piece of work.

Each of us would behold our own reflections in all the stories, sometimes which could be good and sometimes bad, the dual role inside. And the same time , there is a stream of thoughts felt flowing in us. That special quality made Gourahari Das apart from others. A master story teller can only create and carve a character like Anupam, the bureaucrat in Saripoyindi story.

Urmila story is all about an ill fated woman. In her school days, she was a beautiful flamboyant sort girl, always kept teasing the hero or protagonist , in return, he was cursing her to astray. After failing in exams, her life took worst ever turns like eloping with a Tantric and she surfaced in a hospital after some years as a poor paramedic. Protagonist asked her whether she was his classmate but she refused to reveal her identity as her life was doomed. But she kept crying behind the shutting doors. With flashing their nostalgia, the reader too get tearful and resolved to get there to solace her.

Translator Murthy Kvvs deserved our heart felt appreciation as he brought in these moving diverse stories of Gourahari Das. That too, without losing the original flavor of Oriyan culture and ethos. Let the more of it come in the future.

( Reviewed in Telugu by Muralidhar Alajangi in Disha news paper and translated into English by Murthy Kvvs)
K V V S MURTHYhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00662875818831639253noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3855163053101679367.post-73282340298670338092023-01-03T07:43:00.002+05:302023-01-03T07:43:23.293+05:30Ruskin Bond's The Railway Gang

The Railway Gang written by Ruskin Bond always makes me think about several anecdotes that invariably happened in my own life. The description regarding Chottu the young stray dog exactly connects to the one I have seen and which keep moving me whenever there is a stray dog seen out anywhere. In general, most of the people do not care their existence unless they are in the news for having bitten some child. As I probed deeply, found that in almost all cases, the said victim have had bullied or provoked first but people would forget it or would not notice it in hurry as the child was hurt is seen on surface. So everybody goes against the dog naturally.

And having leftovers and unwanted stuff is a matter of big fight with fellow dogs. Who knows sometimes they could go hungry for days. And hardly anyone is there to provide some morsels of food. In our Ruskin Bond's story, Chottu has some shelter in that Railway station and somebody like Kishore would throw a parota now and then. But there were many Chottus are there without any shelter and It's clueless who is there to turn to address the problem. Somewhere we have to end this pathetic life for innocent puppies but how..? Yes, here is a solution. Every dog lover should adopt a stray one and our indigenous dogs are no way inferior compared to any foreign breed.

Ruskin Bond described passionately how happy Chottu was when it came back from a new place. I don't think a writer without an immense kind heart towards animals couldn't tell that sort of soulful tale. We see exquisite warmth and compassion all through the story of The Railway Gang. It told us that animals too have heart wrenching interaction among them and to decipher it one must have empathy towards them. And one more eyeopener is not to getting asleep while we are in swaying compartment, else we would land up in an unidentified station like our Chottu to slunk away in the crowd. And who knows there might be a tough gang of semi wild hounds.

----- Murthy KVVS
K V V S MURTHYhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00662875818831639253noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3855163053101679367.post-91089723607004575122022-10-16T17:05:00.004+05:302022-10-16T17:05:45.674+05:30Seven Samurai
Here I have spoken about "Seven Samurai" movie and you all knew that which was created by Akira Kurasowa, the Japanese film director. Though it was made almost 70 years back, the charm and glory is same with it. That's why Kurasowa was renowned for his genius in film making. Story conceiving, photography, dialogues, screenplay, music composition and everything is exceptional. The actors too were awesome and just lived in them. Our Indian movie Sholay has also been inspired by it and it can be understood when we were watching. I have expressed my feelings in this video. Lawrence has been released a couple of days back. Picked up this for several reasons precisely. Different shades of love in different times with the people and the rural England shown by the writer. It also tells us that how prejudices and judgements sometimes go unreal and shameful. story sets in a small village in England countryside. A secluded rector's daughter and a social outsider are the principal characters. And there are multiple characters to support the exploration of psychology of male and female in terms of different drives like cultural ethos and sensuality.

This Telugu translation has been done in view of introducing Lawrence unconventional magic to our vernacular readers. Hope it will gain momentum in this corona time. That's what I can say about this book which described a set of real time moving incidents of Red Sanders smuggling. The journo turned author Sudhakar Reddy Udumula came out with his experiences of investigation regarding the racket of most precious wood Red sanders or Erra chandanam in Telugu. He exposed the dreadful nexus of politicians and the mafia of the concerned to spin the crores of bucks and how these kingpins would operate the whole game being in the safe havens while the lives of common woodcutters are at the stake. Across Sehachalam hills, the dangerous and most daring attempt keep going on in the form of cutting down the Red sanders trees to sell it in the international market. The chief buyers are China and Japan. This golden wood has much prominence among their societies for a variety of reasons.

Dawood Sahul Hamid, the key player who resides in Dubai is a Tamil origin by birth and he got strong hold on the international market of Red sanders. Kollam Gangi Reddy is anther one from Andhra to tackle the ground level operations. Both have strong ties with some politicians and concerned officials and by that the smuggling became possible with the recruits of henchmen. Hamid was not extradited as Dubai laws in favor of him though our government has asked UAE to hand over. There are multiple smugglers like Kandaswamy Parthiban,AT Maideen,Reddy Narayana,Lakshman and others to name. Every one has their own style of confrontation and smuggling.

How People of Burma bazar of Chennai got turned into the nefarious business were an interesting story and perhaps, hither to not known to many. Modes operandi was explained in detail. Author all the way has gone into the deep forests to know the ground level situation. We would be surprised to have known about the amassed wealth of the smugglers and legal battles are nothing for them due to their money power. Politicians too work hand in gloves. What you lack when you have plenty of money..? Author recorded many instances regarding game changing attitudes of police officers and the smugglers as well. Pretty excited all they are.

there are many things in the book that makes the reader to flip through. Mostly people say that he is a writer for children but in my opinion he is a writer for all ages who have a heart for relishing childhood memories. Who hates one's own childhood and its enchanting hues of experiences..? None, I think. In fact, Ruskin Bond came my way in the phase of grown up, accidentally. The first book I read is a paperback titled "Great stories for kids". Wondered at his crafting of tale telling process. But at the same time ,thrilled being transported into my childhood.

In our surroundings, we have some colonial buildings in dilapidated condition with variety of trees, plants and insects around. Whenever visited the place, we felt a chill in the spine. Of course, haunting spirits were always there to get scared of. The same things I found in one of the stories of Ruskin Bond. On the hill top with such old building having lived by a mysterious Anglo-Indian woman. And a small girl tryst with her still makes me imaging like anything.

And the way the writer portrays every insect, plant, tree and other animals is spellbinding and how badly we ignore sometimes nature's bounty though it stands in front of our own eyes. I started observing flora and fauna of our location soon after finishing this book. It made me a new human being in terms of exploring the nature at its best. Now I knew the names of many kinds of insects and its behaviours. And grew interested in whatever the plant come my way. I became nature sensitive in brief.

After that, the book I read was " Our trees still grow in Dehra". Escape from Java is the mesmerizing story. It sounds like the first hand experience. An exodus from South East Asia let know us many issues of bygone years. In this book, stories like "The bent double beggar, Coming home to Dehra and other ones attracted me for different reasons. I am planning to read many more of his books in the days to come and my best wishes to the e-magazine, running by the lovers of Ruskin Bond.

(Written for E-Magazine dedicated to Bond's writings)
K V V S MURTHYhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00662875818831639253noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3855163053101679367.post-20188261543219684192021-08-02T16:48:00.002+05:302021-08-02T16:48:46.522+05:30Telugu stories got translated

"Noteworthy", a translation work of Telugu stories gave me immense pleasure when I received it a couple of days back. This time he has translated 21 Telugu stories into English for a wide spectrum of readers.

Do you want to know whose stories got translated, well, it's none other than SasiSree (Sk. A mechanical engineer by profession and a writer by passion. This is all about a start-up firm. At the same time, this is more than that and you could ask me how it was different from the rest of all. Yes, in many ways. Plot was woven around corporate office politics, ambitious battle for success and human relations. The way he portrayed characters with balance indicated his craftmanship.

Well, Akhil was working in Newark Consultancy, an automobile company in Pune. An young and energetic engineer with workaholic nature. His immediate boss Raghav who turned egoistic caused the resignation of Akhil as the latter was novice of in-house battle. Teesha , an ambitious marketing executive and independent girl was, once, his school mate and she was also a victim of dirty games of her superior at the office. They became good friends and eventually lovers.

Rati, a single mother with a myriad hopes of her skill in app making. She was Akhil's sister and they have been leading their lives well though their parents were dead in their childhood. Rati was anxious about her son's future. These three people had to start their own firm for their livelihood. For their success, they struggled a lot and they had been taught many good lessons in their journey of business.

Reader would get immersed in the story. Because it's a story of present age problems and struggle to succeed. All the circumstances writer portrayed were nearer to factual and existential situation. App making details and its intricacies described very well. And working ambiance at corporate offices made reader enthusiastic. And at the same time , importance of human relations and emotions portrayed in an interesting way. Chetan Maheshwari maintained the magical precision of suspense, thrilling and corporate in-things all through the novella, it's his neck of woods as he worked for several automobile companies, no boring at all. He can be a promising writer in future, with a little more effort.

Buy the Book HERE

----Reviewed by Murthy Kvvs
K V V S MURTHYhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00662875818831639253noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3855163053101679367.post-53560436939184134612020-06-30T22:50:00.001+05:302020-06-30T23:48:59.472+05:30Trincomalee Beach and Some pictures

It's all about an exotic trip with Sri Samir Ranjan Das and his family. A week days back got an unexpected call from him that they were heading for Lord Rama's darshan at Bhadrachalam and also stepping into Konta of Chattisgarh. And of course to enter the last point of Odisha's Motu by crossing the river Sabari. Altogether 65 k.m. journey by car.
He asked me whether I was free to join him. Travel Freak in me urged me to have obliged to be part of it. I should say a few words about Sri Samir Ranjan Das. He is the senior manager with Indian Overseas Bank and a die-hard fan of Stalwart bilingual writer Sri Manoj Das. He has been running a Facebook page along with a website devoted to the writings and talks of Sri Manoj Das, hailed from Cuttuck of Odisha.
Well, it's been a bliss having around the people of that sort. We were all the way to Konta after Darsanam at the pilgrim place. We had a couple of fruit juice to beat the heat. With long lasted interaction on literature, social issues, and other things our journey through the lush green covered road made us soothing. We entered Andhra's Chinturu and had sumptuous meals. Though the hotel looked gloomy, all the food items were up to the mark.

Got back to Chatti to enter the Chattisgarh by taking up the bypass road. It was all soothing climate with the cool breeze as the state has been blessed with plenty of greenery. Konta looked anew this time. Roads were widened and the new constructions surfaced. At last, we reached the banks of the Sabari river after having some rounds in the town. Here people speak three languages i.e., Hindi, Telugu, and Odia.

Samir ji and his wife along with the daughter crossed the Sabari river by the boat. They have had some photographs at the place of Motu, the last point of Odisha state. Just the river divides two states at this point. And one more thing a stream called Talcher flows by the bank edge of that side with having a hillock amidst merges with Sabari turned into Chinna Godavari. It seemed the exodus of boat travelers never to be ceased.

Having a boat journey is always exciting. The scene of people keep waiting for the boat from the other shore is watch-worthy. With the anxiety to the board and to alight. A woman was charging to collect the money from people both for arrival and departure. The ambiance of the river was delightful with bushes, red soil mounds, and trees. Sleepy but lovely. Rain poured its spell for a while. I got to high land and the bird's eye view of the boat moving was mesmerizing. I clicked some pics, surely some of the best I have ever seen.

I am venturing to review a book (Kindle edition) written by Tomichan Matheikal ji and Am pretty sure which can't be a profound one in any respect. He is a well-known blogger among the fraternity with his stirring writing caliber and many readers are aware of his regular presence over the years. The book carried memoirs of the writer. In nutshell, an autobiography. The days right from a village in Kerala to Shillong to Delhi gave him myriad hues of life experiences.

Reading on Kindle, was not my cup of tea for some reason and enquired Tomichan ji if there was any possibility for having a PDF version. Unfortunately not, so I assumed reading slowly and it had gripped me tight unto its last like a wonderful tale. This is the book I have read on kindle in these days and rejoiced about the uninhibited way of telling his own ups and downs of life, not only that, he unfolded the games played by the people who wanted to control his life.

The writer divided the whole story into 22 chapters and each has a meaningful heading. Sisyphus is the first chapter wherein he disclosed about his place, orthodox parents and how he philosophically related to Sisyphus. How a seminary life in a Catholic priesthood plays a vital role was a long story to read in this and the process was very strict in nature. He also explained the dark side of it as he underwent the same at the beginning of life. Offertory Chicken was the sarcastic heading for the chapter.

In search of green pastures, he set out to Shillong and progressed to an English lecturer. His life became tormented by the manipulators and they succeeded to get him out of the state. Then he started his life anew in Delhi from the premises of Sawan school. His Shillong days revealed many interesting things about the North East and their skepticism towards others. His description regarding the woes he underwent at both places is an unforgettable saga that would move any heart.

The book can be said as a psychological thriller. The writer had gone through the depths of the people and in return, he received blows from society. The best part is to accept his weaknesses at the places. He held his wife Maggie at the highest esteem for her support in thick and thin. Intro was written by Dr.Jose D.Maliekal would help the reader a lot in understanding the fabric of the Catholic organization and its spirit.---- Murthy KVVS

Teachers play a crucial role in one's life. That's true.I am not saying it, seeing them in an altruistic mirror.A practical approach, I would like to adopt to showcase the two sides of the coin. Not imbued with raw emotion either.First, we should admit that a teacher is also a part and parcel of our society and he can not be expected with the qualities of divine nature.Yet, a true teacher has some unique features in his character, that I would say from my academic life. There were some teachers who would never seize to influence me even at this moment. They are constant inspiring posts all along the life. They are certainly not time conscious, calculating or intimidating. They loved teaching their subject and if someone kept spotted in their class with the same dedication in learning, that makes them immense happy to take them under their wings.

Teaching is now turned a thriving profession.Maybe true with government sector but in private establishment a pathetic condition to describe.Always he has to be at the disposal of management whims.Conditions never deter a passionate teacher. He continues to inspire in all kinds of situations.Because that's his true nature. One should not enter into teaching the profession without having the flair for teaching. That mars the quality of education. And that's what happening in our country, unfortunately. Some people take a misconception in distinguishing a "Guru" for the teacher. The teacher is evanescent as anything does, and he is a facilitator but Guru is not like that.He is a bit rebellion, soliciting all odds and woes to be a real teacher.
At any cost, there are always some essential things to do in life.Like we eat, every day, reading is one particular thing in spite of however neck deep we are in with other hundred and one errands. The peril social media brought is killing the quality time of book reading. An inevitable ghost, demands prime of our time and the reasons are too terrific to resist.Everyone accepts it; I hope.Or it could be like that with me.

Well, even all these odds wouldn't dampen spirits of us when really the habit of reading poked into the bones.Morning is the ideal time for me to pick up some books and get into it as much as possible.I strongly decided to finish off three books this time from my bucket list.Frankly speaking, these were half read in my leisure time and now the right moment to pull them off or never.

Fingers crossed? Going to unravel. Surely these won't take you by storm. But you would be curious about what made this crazy guy kept pursuing these.Ruskin Bond's Great stories for children, yes,you heard right. That's what I am going to give a read to complete. My childhood gets rejuvenated whenever I read Ruskin Bond. His way of telling a tale is mysterious for me.It fascinates not only the child, but also entire all ages in our home. Those Himalayan flowers, trees, hillside villages, young children, grand fathers, ghosts, relics of British constructions and what not, every thing haunts in a strange manner.

And the second one is a Telugu book. It is really an amazing contribution to the Indian travel history. And which described the adventurous journey of Sri Enugula Veera Swamy in the 1830s.He embarked 4000 k.m. travel, From Chennai to Kashi or Varanasi.Route taken from Chennai,Tirupathi,Kadapa,Srisailam,Hyderabad,Nagpur,Jabalpur via other places to reach and in return journey, he had chosen different places of Bihar,West Bengal,Odisha and Andhra to get his home town Chennai.Perhaps, in those remote years, there was no other human being to achieve this kind of travel adventure on the earth, even in any country if I am not mistaken.Pages get flipping up.

The third book is Zeme Folk tales. It is a collection of 31 folk tales of Naga Land. And which encompasses of social, cultural and religious beliefs of Nagas. We should better say, more than that in brief.Legends, ballads, rituals, social structure and ecology of Naga Land collected in the book.Down south, very few people know the fabric of North Eastern states.More books like these are to be of a great help to manifold at greater extent.

People should go beyond the text books. The real world;the vaster and the brighter are always out there.

That was early morning on the streets of Berhampur,Odisha. What made me intrigued was the hoarding of a press on the corner of Prakasam street. It reads as Kakinada Press. In fact,Kakinada is a town situated in the state of Andhra pradesh.Perhaps the owner of it belonged to that place or some connection could be there.Doors of all shops closed as it was not the time for it.Roads were having the sign of splashing rain of some hours ago.

The temple's architecture reminds us the typical oldest Singhala construction.Timber was used profusely especially inside. In fact, the temple is in the premises of royal palace. So it is spacious in every aspect.A Lake was there and the town built on the uphills. We can witness it from the temple view. There were many other nationals in the visitors.Sri Lanka follows Theravada Buddhism.
Outside the temple, there were several flower stalls selling lotus and other colorful flowers and people were taking them into temple to offer.Coconut were seen but they were in red color. While we were in the temple, morning rituals kept going on.Statues of Buddha,Stupa and other paintings depicting the religious importance could be seen.Dress code is simple. It should be decent worthy of having seen a revered and enlightened one.
Kandy is blessed with scenic beauty.Plenty of greenery, tea plantations and slope houses added much feast to the eyes.Clouds always keep shrouding the hillocks.Waterfalls were aplenty.Hotels offer exciting food in reasonable budget. Some shops selling textiles and others were receiving Indian currency.People were cool.No trace of any civil war that had taken place some years back.
Epic Ramayana is known to everyone by the virtue of reading or Listening.Sundara Kanda, a part of it describes how Rakshasa king Ravana abducted her to avenge the deed of his sister done by Rama's brother. That's how seeta had been captivated and brought into Lanka, his kingdom. There is a place called seeta Eliya where she was kept under a Ashoka tree.In the part of my Sri Lanka tour,I have visited the place and got some clicks.
First of all,all the ambiance was very beautiful with lush green trees and hillocks.Cool atmosphere, fluffy clouds, balming breeze and sprawling gardens added another beauty to the location.A temple was built by local Indian diaspora. An epic is epic.it could be of imagination or a real story framed in such a way or something else, but which had taken people by it's own aura.Or influence.
This place is almost 170 k.m. from Colombo and would take five and half hours journey by bus.We also encounter exotic nature all along the journey.A clear example for how rich Sri Lanka in luxurious forests and tea plantations. And there were medium and luxurious hotels located around here.Waterfalls are every where all long the travel.Going back to Epic details and being in exuberant natural lap that's what we feel about the place of Seeta Eliya. And of course which is 5 k.m. away from Nuwara Eliya,a much known town.
