Buddha's tooth relic temple in Kandy

Kandy is the most ancient town of Sri Lanka with hundreds of years of glorious past.Buddha's temple built here receives exodus of visitors from many countries. The temple was constructed on the tooth relic of Buddha. One should visit the great monument for the historical and spiritual  importance. The tooth of Buddha reached here from the king of Kalinga in 4 CE.First to the king of Anuradha pura and eventually which came to the royal family of Kandy. It's believed that the tooth relic brings victory to the holder of it.

The temple's architecture reminds us the typical oldest Singhala construction.Timber was used profusely especially inside. In fact, the temple is in the premises of royal palace. So it is spacious in every aspect.A Lake was there and the town built on the uphills. We can witness it from the temple view. There were many other nationals in the visitors.Sri Lanka follows Theravada Buddhism.

Outside the temple, there were several flower stalls selling lotus and other colorful flowers and people were taking them into temple to offer.Coconut were seen but they were in red color. While we were in the temple, morning rituals kept going on.Statues of Buddha,Stupa and other paintings depicting the religious importance could be seen.Dress code is simple. It should be decent worthy of having seen a revered and enlightened one.

Kandy is blessed with scenic beauty.Plenty of greenery, tea plantations and slope houses added much feast to the eyes.Clouds always keep shrouding the hillocks.Waterfalls were aplenty.Hotels offer exciting food in reasonable budget. Some shops selling textiles and others were receiving Indian currency.People were cool.No trace of any civil war that had taken place some years back.

Seeta Eliya Where Hanuman encountered Seeta Devi

Epic Ramayana is known to everyone by the virtue of reading or Listening.Sundara Kanda, a part of it describes how Rakshasa king Ravana abducted her to avenge the deed of his sister done by Rama's brother. That's how seeta had been captivated and brought into Lanka, his kingdom. There is a place called seeta Eliya where she was kept under a Ashoka tree.In the part of my Sri Lanka tour,I have visited the place and got some clicks.

First of all,all the ambiance was very beautiful with lush green trees and hillocks.Cool atmosphere, fluffy clouds, balming breeze and sprawling gardens added another beauty to the location.A temple was built by local Indian diaspora. An epic is epic.it could be of imagination or a real story framed in such a way or something else, but which had taken people by it's own aura.Or influence.

This place is almost 170 k.m. from Colombo and would take five and half hours journey by bus.We also encounter exotic nature all along the journey.A clear example for how rich Sri Lanka in luxurious forests and tea plantations. And there were medium and luxurious hotels located around here.Waterfalls are every where all long the travel.Going back to Epic details and being in exuberant natural lap that's what we feel about the place of Seeta Eliya. And of course which is 5 k.m. away from Nuwara Eliya,a much known town.

My Sri Lanka Trip

Landed in the Island country of Sri Lanka recently and founded it as a place of beautiful mix of cultures along with exotic variety of flora and fauna.I have taken some pictures wherever stopped for displaying the same for my blog visitors. It could be not in an order. But I am sure you will like to see them through my lenses.

Here in the first picture, this is the road Colombo to Anuradha Pura.Filled with awesome green trees bathing in the sunshine of morning.

This is the small hotel where we have stopped for refreshments.Dosas were available along with others.Good quality. No complaints.Adjacent to it,there was a temple built by Tamil diaspora.Murugan temple surrounded by well shaded trees.
A gas filling station and housing sites with good space.
A lake with green leaves.perhaps the lotus flowers plucked out. They were in great demand for the Budhist temples. They offered as a sign of respect.
Stupas were aplenty in Anuradha Pura.Dated back to 1300 B.C.
Another stupa under renovation.

A View after crossing Anuradha Pura town road.
